Ball Mill Sound Insulation Enclosure

球磨机隔音罩 中文页

Manufacturer: HANWEI Noise Barriers Technical contact: Li Gong, Senior Engineer Updated: 2026-10-29 Sound Barriers, Built to Block Noise.

The Ball Mill Sound Insulation Enclosure is a custom-engineered full-machine acoustic housing designed for the impact-noise characteristics of ball mills. The steel panel enclosure fully surrounds the drum, large and small gears, and all drive components. The outer cladding is electrostatically powder-coated galvanized steel, with an inner perforated metal liner backed by 80–100 mm of centrifugal glass wool insulation (density 48 kg/m³, NRC ≥ 0.85). Engineered for continuous operation and high-impact sound levels, the enclosure features reinforced structural framing and independently designed ventilation silencer ducts with service access points. Field-measured overall noise reduction at identical positions before and after installation reaches 20–30 dB(A), making it a primary solution for mill boundary noise compliance in the mineral processing, cement, and building materials industries. Quotation is project-specific—provide drum diameter, length, and site layout details for a detailed proposal.

About This Product

Why Ball Mills Are the No. 1 Noise Challenge at Plant Boundaries

Ball mills are universally recognized as major noise sources in mineral processing, cement, and building materials industries: the impact of steel balls against ore and liners radiates directly through the cylinder wall, compounded by gear meshing noise and main motor sound. Noise levels at 1 meter from the machine typically reach 100–115 dB(A), and the equipment runs continuously for dozens of hours at a stretch. This noise damages workers' hearing on-site and penetrates beyond the plant boundary — low-frequency impact sounds travel far, and ordinary perimeter walls offer little protection. The ball mill soundproof enclosure solution encloses the entire noise source: a steel plate shell blocks direct sound, a thick sound-absorbing layer eliminates reverberation build-up inside the enclosure, and all cooling, maintenance, and feeding openings are configured as silencer passages — so the machine operates normally while sound cannot escape.

Enclosure Structure: Heavy-Duty Frame, Customized for Mining Conditions

Ball mills are large in size with extensive auxiliary operations, so the enclosure uses a thickened steel profile frame with modular steel panel assembly: outer panels of 2.0–3.0 mm galvanized steel with electrostatic powder coating, inner perforated panel facing filled with 80–100 mm centrifugal glass wool. The frame is engineered to local wind load and mining dust environment specifications, with bolted panel connections and sealed seams using gasket strips. The modular design is particularly practical for mining applications: positions requiring frequent access — such as cylinder liner replacement and gearbox inspection — are pre-equipped with soundproof door panels. During maintenance, sections are opened locally and restored afterward without compromising overall noise reduction performance.

Ventilation & Cooling: Motor Temperature Rise Is the Primary Constraint

With high-power main motors running continuously, internal temperature control must take priority. We independently configure ventilated silencer passages at both ends of the cylinder near the journals and around the motor area. Passages are lined with sound-absorbing material — air flows in, sound cannot flow out. Passage cross-sections are calculated based on motor heat dissipation and permissible temperature rise within the enclosure; forced exhaust fans are added where necessary. All electrical conduits penetrating the enclosure are fitted with soundproof sleeves and hermetically sealed to eliminate sound leakage paths.

Maintenance & Inspection: Everyday Access Without Stopping Operation

Mineral processing lines cannot afford frequent ball mill shutdowns, so the enclosure maintenance design follows the principle of "no door opening for daily rounds, partial opening for planned maintenance": a tempered glass observation window is installed at the feed end for visual monitoring of feed volume and material level; end inspection doors serve routine checks; large-component work positions for liner replacement and gear ring maintenance are confirmed item by item against your maintenance procedures during the design phase, with soundproof door-equipped removable panels provided accordingly.

Quotation & Delivery

Quotations are calculated based on enclosure unfolded area, priced at 600–1,500 RMB/m², including inspection doors, observation windows, and ventilated silencer passages. Provide the ball mill model, cylinder dimensions, and site layout drawing (hand-sketched dimensions are acceptable), and we will deliver a proposal and detailed quotation on the same day. Standard specifications have a production lead time of 10–20 days; oversized components are palletized and shipped via logistics, with on-site assembly. Installation guidance can be arranged. Each shipment is accompanied by material certificates and factory test reports, with photos taken of every piece prior to loading for archival records.

FAQ

Ball Mill Sound Insulation Enclosure — Frequently Asked Questions

The questions buyers ask most often about this product before placing an order.

Ball mills are extremely noisy—how much noise reduction can this enclosure achieve?

Depending on drum diameter and enclosure configuration, field measurements at identical positions show an overall noise reduction of 20–30 dB(A) before and after installation. Operator positions near the mill typically drop from above 100 dB(A) to approximately 80 dB(A). When combined with other site-wide measures, compliance at boundary monitoring points is a standard outcome. Noise predictions can be provided during the proposal stage.

How do we handle lining replacement and gear maintenance?

The enclosure is designed with service access positions equipped with acoustic doors at locations corresponding to lining replacement and pinion/gear ring inspections. These sections can be partially opened during maintenance and fully restored afterward, without compromising overall noise reduction. Access door locations are confirmed item by item during the proposal phase according to your maintenance procedures.

Will motor cooling be affected?

No. Independent ventilation silencer ducts are provided at both drum trunnion ends and around the motor area. Duct cross-sections are calculated based on motor heat dissipation and allowable temperature rise inside the enclosure. Forced exhaust fans can be added if necessary. Temperature control takes priority over noise control in our design hierarchy—this is the first design constraint we address.

We're retrofitting an existing plant—is there enough space?

The enclosure is customized to the equipment outline plus required maintenance clearances. Panel modules are assembled on-site; no full equipment dismantling or lifting is needed. Before delivery, we verify site access routes and safe clearance distances from adjacent equipment. All installation path issues are resolved during the survey stage.

How is pricing calculated?

Pricing is based on the total展开 area of the enclosure at ¥600–1,500 per m², including service doors, observation windows, and ventilation silencer ducts. Foundation work, forced exhaust, and other site-specific items are quoted separately based on actual conditions. A detailed quotation is provided on the same day upon receiving drum dimensions.

What is the delivery lead time?

Standard specifications: 10–20 days. Larger drums or projects requiring on-site re-measurement may require additional time. Panels are shipped bundled via logistics and assembled on-site. Our technicians can be arranged for installation guidance.

How does this relate to your existing cooling tower and air compressor noise solutions?

The ball mill enclosure is a core hardware measure in comprehensive mill boundary noise management. A typical plant often has multiple noise sources—including ball mills, air compressors, and fans—operating simultaneously. We can integrate this enclosure into a full-plant acoustic treatment program: first measuring each source's contribution, then defining the treatment sequence and combined solution.
